Kelly Clarkson’s Chemistry Vegas residency ends on a high note—what's next?
Kelly rocked Vegas and exceeded all expectations. Some thoughts on what's next for the original American Idol, her band and her fans.
Hey fellow Clarkstan! 👋 Welcome to NOTHING BUT CLARKSON — a newsletter all about Emmy and Grammy winner (and rad human) Kelly Clarkson. In this edition, I’m sharing some thoughts on what’s next after Kelly’s successful Vegas residency.
Kelly Clarkson’s successful Vegas 2023 residency comes to an end
After a limited 10-show run, Kelly Clarkson’s Vegas residency at the Bakkt Theatre in Planet Hollywood has come to an end.
For hardcore Clarkstans like me, it’s bittersweet. The residency has been nothing short of magical. As Kelly promised, every night was special as we got a different cover, Chemistry track, and “KC classics” every show. While I only went to night 1 and night 2 of the residency, I’ve watched some livestreams, and the vibe from the Kelly Clarkson fandom has been super positive. And after every show, there seems to be a new viral clip of Kelly on social media. So while it’s great to see the residency be as successful as it has been, it’s also sad to see it end.
Now that this residency is over, what can we expect next?
First of all, there’s going to be some promo around the Chemistry deluxe album, which was officially announced by Kelly last week. We already know she’s performing at The Today Show on September 22 (the same day as the album’s release), but there will be more.
IMO, Atlantic did a decent job with the promo for Chemistry when it came out in June, but I have high hopes that they will step it up even more for the deluxe release. As I shared on Twitter/X, my wish list includes:
A proper second single sent to both Hot AC and pop (“favorite kind of high” and “magic” are great options)
Interviews with music-focused podcasts like Song Explorer and Dua Lipa’s At Your Service
Performances on NPR’s Tiny Desk
Acoustic performances on social media lives
Appearances on some dates for Pink’s current tour
Some intimate, Chemistry-only concerts in New York, LA and Seattle (or Vancouver lol)
More videos from the Birthday at the Belasco concert
Others have mentioned as well that Kelly could do Good Morning America, Live with Kelly and Mark, and other similar shows that are still on despite the strikes.
I really doubt we’ll get all of these (marketing has never been Kelly’s team’s strong suit), but I hope that with Atlantic realizing how strong Kelly’s fanbase is, we’ll get way more than we did earlier this year.
Outside of the promo for the deluxe album, Kelly’s calendar might be a bit more chill than she had expected because of the strikes. As a fan, I’d love for her to do a mini-tour until The Kelly Clarkson Show is back on the air, but realistically, I think she’ll take this opportunity to recharge and settle down in her new home in New York City.
On Twitter, Todd Collins, Kelly’s percussionist, already hinted that a summer ‘24 residency might be in the works.
Looking waaay ahead, I think the success of Kelly’s residency in Vegas will inspire similar projects in the future. On Twitter, Todd Collins, Kelly’s percussionist, already hinted that a summer ‘24 residency might be in the works. Given that Kelly’s residency forced the Bakkt Theatre to open up its balcony due to overwhelming demand, I’m not really surprised there are already some talks about a return. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see if things actually work out!
As Kelly Clarkson fans, we’ve already been so blessed and spoiled this year. I really hope that Kelly and her team take the time to celebrate the success of her residency and get some well deserved time off. That said, I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us. 😃
