đ¨ Kelly Clarkson: the dancing (and dance chart) queen đ
Kelly Clarkson can sing (duh!) and she's a respected pop star. But did you know she's also kind of a dance diva? A look at Kelly's history on various Billboard dance charts...
Hey fellow Clarkstan! đ Welcome to NOTHING BUT CLARKSON â a newsletter all about Emmy and Grammy winner (and rad human) Kelly Clarkson. This week is about danceâKellyâs dancing and her track record on the dance charts. Letâs go!
(DONâT) SKIP THIS PART
Some random thoughts from me.
This week, Kelly Clarkson released the David Guetta remix of her summer anthem âfavorite kind of high.â While the remix is a bit underwhelming (the original is so good that it really set the bar high), itâs not entirely a skip for me.
Itâll be interesting to see what Atlantic Records and Kellyâs management team plan to do with the remix. On one hand, it doesnât make sense to get someone like Guetta to do a remix if they have nothing major planned for it. But, on the other hand, thereâs still no official word whether âFavorite Kind of Highâ is officially the next radio single from Chemistry.
This Guetta collaboration is already the second remix from Kellyâs upcoming album: just a few weeks ago, we got a stellar Ty Sunderland remix of âmine.â (For what itâs worth, I think the Sunderland remix is a lot better than Guettaâs.)
All these EDM remixes made me look into Kellyâs history on the dance charts. Did you know that Kelly has SEVEN number 1s on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart?!?
These songs made the top of the list, according to the Billboard website:
âHeatâ - 3/16/19
âLove So Softâ - 11/18/17
âHeartbeat Songâ - 05/09/15
âPeople Like Usâ - 06/29/13
âCatch My Breathâ - 02/02/13
âDark Sideâ - 08/25/12
âStronger (What Doesnât Kill You)â - 03/03/12
She also has a #1 Top Dance & Electronic Album, with Piece By Piece: Remixed topping the chart on March 26, 2016.
Will Kelly get any dance hit during the Chemistry era? Itâs not impossible. According to Wikipedia, Billboard has suspended the Dance Club Songs chart since 2020, but there are other dance charts, including the Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs. (Coincidentally, as Iâm writing this, David Guettaâs collaboration with Bebe Rexha, âIâm Good (Blue)â is currently at the top of this chart.) If Atlantic plays its cards right, I donât see why one of the existing remixes from Chemistry wouldnât climb up this chart.
Speaking of dancing, Kelly Clarksonâs dancing was all over Twitter and Instagram this week as our queen danced the night away during the wrap-up party for the latest season of The Voice. Check out the compilation below from @redwineclarkson!
Also about The Voice, Kellyâs artist, D. Smooth, finished third this season. I havenât been watching The Voice these past few seasons đŹ, so I have no opinion on the results. lol. Their duet during the finale is stellar though.
It was revealed a few weeks back that Kelly wonât be a coach next season, which makes sense given her daytime showâs impending move to New York City. It would have been interesting to have Kelly and Reba in the same season though!
WHATâS NEW, CLARKSON?
Notable mentions and news about our queen.
As I already mentioned, the David Guetta remix of âFavorite Kind of Highâ is out now. Thereâs a lyric music video featuring DJ River Rose (so cute đ) and a visualizer on YouTube.
Kelly hopped on a live stream on topshoplive, and there were some interesting nuggets from her conversation with host Nancy OâDell.
The biggest gag? She mentioned that sheâs writing for Broadway. đŽ đŽ đŽ âIâm in the works of writing something right now,â Kelly told host Nancy. âI donât like acting for movies or TV, but I do love stage stuff âcuz thatâs how I grew up.âAlso during her chat on topshoplive, she said that her primary motivation for her move to New York City is to be closer to family, most of whom are on the east coast. Several publicationsâincluding TODAY, People, and The Hollywood Reporter, covered this news.
Kelly has some interviews out, including one with Entertainment Tonight Canada (video on Twitter) and Ashley Grecoâs iHeart Radio Canada and CHUM 104.5.
More âFavorite Kind of Highâ reaction videos are out, including ones from RiasMusicalEscape, Hege Official (âher vocals sound very cleanâ), and Sal.
WHAT IâM LIKING
An awesome post from social media, but without the $1000 cheque. đ
Trend alert! To show that âfavorite kind of highâ goes with any dance, people have been using the song on some iconic dances. 𤣠One of my faves is this compilation from @themikeyrusso.
ONE LAST THINGâŚ
Just a friendly reminder to stream âfavorite kind of highâ using this link from Atlantic Records!
